Listening Ear is a registered charity and growing social enterprise with its headquarters in Knowsley, Merseyside.

In response to a lack of available bereavement therapy support, Listening Ear began in 1993 as a ‘reflective listening’ service run by community volunteers. With funding from The Steve Morgan Foundation, in 2004, Listening Ear established one of the first age-appropriate bereavement therapy services for children and young people.

The service professionalised and became a registered charity in 2006 with Listening Ear’s adult counselling service becoming the first service in Merseyside to achieve Accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) with the children’s service achieving accreditation in 2019.

In 2015, Listening Ear began to deliver Amparo, one of the first suicide postvention services in the country. This has now grown to be the largest service of its kind in the UK. Postvention places immediate (within 24 hours) practical and emotional support around anyone affected by suicide.

Over the years, individuals have presented to our services with wider issues, in particular, as a result of their experiences of Domestic Abuse and being a Looked After Child. These have become real areas of expertise and with bereavement and traumatic bereavement, remain at the heart of our charity.

Finally, Mindset (our professional training division), is developing a workforce skilled in placing therapeutic support around individuals affected by the issues above.

Our services are focused on impact and we are proud of the difference we make to people’s lives. Our service is expanding rapidly and we operate in locations across the country.

If you’re not sure which service you need, or if you have any questions, please get in touch. We’re here to help.
