Prepare for a career as a professional counsellor with children and young people with this new course from Listening Ear’s Mindset Training.

We are now seeking applications for our comprehensive, 12 month course consisting of 426 classroom hours and 100 placement hours leading to a Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People.

Commencing in April 2020, 16 places are available which will be offered through a competitive process determined by application and interview.

Thanks to funding from the PH Holt Foundation, we can offer 13 subsidised places for £1000 and 3 free places via bursaries.  Places for our 2020 intake are reserved for students from Merseyside and what we mean by this is the 5 metropolitan boroughs of Sefton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Wirral and St Helens. You must either have been born and raised on Merseyside, or lived a significant part of your life, including attending school, having a permanent home in Merseyside, and for mature students, refugees and EU nationals, established a life in Merseyside prior to enrolling. You must be able to evidence this.   Bursary students will also be eligible to claim volunteering expenses to widen access to education opportunities.

During the course of the year, two residential weekends will be  held which will incur additional costs.

Applicants must already hold a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling (adults).

All students will be guaranteed a placement with Listening Ear and some limited placement opportunities will also be available in partnership with other agencies in Merseyside.

The course will be delivered at Listening Ear’s dedicated CYP counselling centre in Whiston, Knowsley.

  • Will I qualify for the reduced cost of £1000?

All students who meet the residence criteria outlined above will be eligible for the reduced cost.

  • When does the course start?

The course begins on Tuesday 28th April 2020.

  • What days and times will the course run?

The course will run on a Tuesday in Whiston 1 day per week 9am – 5.30pm (48 weeks)
In addition, students will be required to complete 4 Saturday and 4 Sunday classroom sessions as part of the course.
Saturday x 4  9.30am-2pm = (total 4hrs 30 mins x4 =18hrs)
Sunday x 4    9.30am -2pm= (total 4hrs 30 mins x4 = 18hrs)

These weekend dates to be confirmed with class.

The course will also include 2 taught residential weekends in May and October 2020 (Friday 12 noon – Sunday 1pm). Please note that this will be at additional cost to students.

  • I have completed my course but have not yet received my Diploma, am I eligible to apply?

Yes, you are eligible to apply if you have completed your 100 hours placement and are awaiting your formal qualification. You must be able to provide documentary evidence of this.  We may also contact your course tutor.
