Supporting Professionals Ahead of Our New Warwickshire Domestic Abuse Service
As we prepare to launch our new Domestic Abuse Counselling Service across Warwickshire this September, we’re working with professionals across the county to help strengthen the support available to children, young people and families affected by domestic abuse.
Launching a new service is about much more than opening referrals. It’s about building confident, informed networks of professionals who can recognise the signs of domestic abuse, respond appropriately and ensure people receive the support they need at the earliest opportunity.
Over the coming weeks we’ll be delivering a series of free professional training events designed to support this shared commitment. Our next session, The Impact of Domestic Abuse on Children and Young People, explores one of the most important aspects of safeguarding practice.
Children and young people who experience domestic abuse are often affected in ways that extend far beyond the immediate situation. Exposure to abuse can influence emotional wellbeing, behaviour, education, relationships and long-term development, making early recognition and informed intervention essential.
This one-day course has been designed to give professionals the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to recognise the signs of domestic abuse and respond appropriately within their role.
Suitable for professionals working across education, health, social care, counselling, safeguarding, emergency services and the voluntary sector, the programme combines current legislation, safeguarding guidance and practical learning to support confident professional practice.
Throughout the day delegates will explore:
- The different forms of domestic abuse and coercive and controlling behaviour.
- The impact of domestic abuse on children’s emotional, psychological and social development.
- Safeguarding responsibilities and the links between domestic abuse and child protection.
- Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their long-term impact.
- Responding safely to disclosures.
- Referral pathways and effective multi-agency working.
- Practical strategies for supporting children and young people while maintaining professional boundaries and personal resilience.
By the end of the course, delegates will have a greater understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on children and young people, increased confidence in recognising risk, practical skills for responding appropriately to concerns, and a clearer understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and referral pathways.
All delegates receive a CPD Certificate on completion.
